The largest Hotel with 10.000 Rooms

Colossus of Prora stretches more than three miles along the white sandy beaches of the Baltic Sea pulaegen, Germany. It is the largest hotel in the world with 10,000 bedrooms all overlooking the sea. But over the 73 years since the hotel was built, no one ever lived here with the purpose of traveling. It’s also a large complex of buildings built between 1936 and 1939 as part of the "Strength through Pleasure" ("Kraft durch Freude," KdF) by Nazis.

The goal is to provide recreational activities for the workers of Germany and Nazi propaganda. Locals call it "Prora Colossus", as a monumental structure. Prora is located in a wide bay between the Sassnitz and Binz, known as Wiek Prorer, the narrow heath that separates the lagoon Großer Jasmunder Bodden of the Baltic Sea. It required about 9,000 workers and took three years to build, starting from 1936, and the Nazis also had a long-term plan to build four identical resorts, completed with cinema, festival hall, a swimming pool and a dock where the cruise ship anchored. The complex consists of eight identical buildings that extend over 4.5 kilometers and about 150 meters from the beach.

Hitler is a very ambitious person, he wanted a gigantic sea resort, the "most powerful and bigger than ever", in which there are 20,000 beds. All rooms facing the sea are planned, while the corridors and sanitation is located on the side facing the ground. Each guest room is 5 x 2.5 meters. It has a double bed, wardrobe and sink. There are showers and toilets on each floor and the ballroom. In the center, set up a large building that could be converted into a military hospital in the event of war.

After the war, Prora is used as a military post for the East German army. After German reunification in 1990, part of the building is used by the Bundeswehr Military Engineering School and was last used as a shelter for asylum seekers from the Balkans.

Today, almost the whole place is pretty deserted and uninhabited except for a few blocks that have changed for other purposes. In 2011, a block converted into a "Youth Hostel" with 400 beds and the plan now is to convert Prora into a modern tourist resort with 300 beds which includes a swimming pool, tennis courts and a small shopping center. Dailymail.co.uk said that “the largest holiday camp ever constructed by the Nazis has been sold for £2.2million”
