A Lottery Player Finds a Million-Dollar Winning Ticket in His Jacket.

 People who play the lottery usually check to see if they've won. Not so for a player from Hesse (it is a state in west-central Germany; its capital city is Wiesbaden). He apparently forgot his ticket – and six months later, he discovered a million-dollar sum in his jacket.

The father from the Rhine-Main area had played anonymously without a customer card before the Saturday drawing on March 29, folded his lottery ticket, put it in his jacket, and then apparently forgot the receipt in his pocket, a spokesperson for Lotto Hessen reported on Monday. "Out of sight, out of mind – unbelievable, but that's probably how it must have been," the spokesperson said.

With these numbers, the man had cracked the Lotto 6aus49 jackpot and won 15.3 million euros, something he hadn't suspected for months.

"Completely shocked, " he even heard on the radio about the search for a lottery winner, but even at that moment, the man didn't answer the phone, reports Lotto Hessen.

At the end of May, the lottery company launched a poster campaign at its sales outlets to draw attention to the unclaimed prize. "How stupid can you be not to collect this?" the winner said at the time, according to Lotto Hessen. "It never occurred to me that I could be the one they were looking for.

"Only now, as he was putting his jacket back on, did he come across the valuable lottery receipt. "When I checked the numbers on my phone and saw the winnings, I was completely shocked," the man said, according to the statement.

Money for a new couch

With his winnings of exactly €15,336,286.40, he intends to buy a new living room couch – and, above all, to provide for the children with his wife. The couple has vowed not to reveal their winnings to anyone else, Lotto Hessen announced.

"Actually, we wanted to search for you again these days with posters and through the media," it continued, referring to the winner.
