The largest Digital Camera
Have you ever seen the largest digital camera? The world's
largest digital camera, both physically and capacity, will be realized. This
camera is will be part of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) which now
entered the design phase.
This camera might be out of imagination where we can't hold
the shutter or adjust the diaphragm of a camera. This is a big project. This
camera will take pictures of objects that exist in outer space. LSST will
survey for three nights and took a picture which is equivalent to 800 000 with
a capacity of eight-megapixel photos.
During the three nights, the LSST will take as much as 30 terabytes
of data every night. The camera capturing an area
about 49 times the size of the Moon in a single frame.
It has weight about three tons. The camera will catch
every object that is close to the earth.
The
construction will be finished in 2014. DOE and the National
Science Foundation help to build the
camera. Although still in the design phase, some small part is begin to be created.
Such as installation of a mirror of 8.4 meters and the construction of the
telescope at Cerro Pachon homes, Northern Chile.
