The Sun, as an Ally Against the Obesity Epidemic
Exposing body to the rays of the sun helps control the body weight, fight obesity and the onset of some diseases directly related such as type 2 diabetes. It is what it says a study conducted by the Universities of Edinburgh and Southampton and published in scientific journal Diabetes.
According to the team of British researchers, exposure to UV rays positively influences the production on the part of our body of nitric oxide that would govern the manner in which foods are assimilated and, therefore, plays a key role in the metabolism. This substance, released from the skin, promotes vasodilation and consequently a decline in blood pressure which, with the help of the sun, allows for control of the body weight.
The research has been conducted on laboratory animals is divided into two phases that have given more than positive results. First it was evaluated the role played by the sun rays in slowing down the accumulation of body weight and, subsequently, the exposure was replaced by the application of a cream to nitric oxide. Both of the tests carried out by scientists have confirmed the same results demonstrating that the mice not exposed to the sun show alterations in the levels of glucose present in the blood, and insulin resistance, symptoms of type 2 diabetes.
You will need further studies to examine the results obtained, for the time being, only in the laboratory, however are undeniable the beneficial effects exerted by the sun with a correct exposure. Richard Weller, one of the authors of the research, says that:
Studies such as these help us better understand how the sun can be good for us. We need to remember that skin cancer is not the only disease that can kill us and perhaps the advice on exposure to the sun should be balanced better".
A long walk in the open air, also under the warm rays of a sun autumn, can therefore guarantee important beneficial effects on our body which, however, should always be supplemented by a balanced and healthy diet.
