Water is good for the body, that's clear. But sometimes we'd like something with more flavor – that's where detox water with cleansing and delicious additives comes in. It tastes good, does you good, and is quick to make. Read on to find out what effects detox water has, whether it helps with weight loss, and how to make it yourself.
This is the effect of detox water.
Detox water, also known as vitamin water, is a trend from the USA. It's mineral water flavored with various combinations of fruits, vegetables, spices, and herbs. This not only makes it taste good but also has positive effects on health.
The term detox (from the English "detoxification") means to detoxify or cleanse the body. This can be achieved, for example, by alkalizing the body with certain foods, avoiding stress, and getting plenty of exercise.
Detox water, due to its ingredients like lemon or cucumber, is said to have a detoxifying effect on the entire body. It is therefore believed to help remove toxins from the body.
However, it should be noted that conventional medicine generally considers detoxification programs unnecessary, as it believes that a healthy human body does not accumulate toxins or metabolic waste products. According to this view, everything is excreted through the small intestine.
Regardless of the specific detoxification approach, one thing is certain: detox water definitely helps maintain the body's water balance. Furthermore, the drink is attributed with the following effects due to its vitamin and mineral content:
- Strengthening the immune system
- Stimulating digestion
- Stimulation of the circulatory system
- Support for cognitive abilities
- Slowing down the aging process
Does detox water help with weight loss?
As a general rule, someone who drinks two liters of water a day consumes 200 fewer calories than someone who doesn't drink that much. The reason: Thirst is often mistaken for hunger. Furthermore, a US study found that drinking water increases resting energy expenditure by up to 25%.
Detox water has the added benefit of stimulating metabolism with certain fruits, such as lemons or mangoes. This effect is beneficial, for example, for weight loss. Furthermore, detox water provides a greater feeling of satiety.
