The castle appears to rise out of the waters of Lac Léman, where is connected to the mainland by a small wooden bridge. We can enjoy spectacular locations on the eastern edge of Lake Geneva with mountain as the background. The Château de Chillon is totally amazing. Who is the man behind this castle? Lord Byron visited the chateau and later wrote the poem 'Prisoner of Chillon' (1816). This poem told about the fate of Francois de Bonivard (1493-1570). Based on the history, Bonivard was a Genevois monk, a politician and the castle's most famous prisoner (he was imprisoned there from 1530 to 1536). Lord Byron was instrumental in introducing Chillon Castle to the world. It makes this castle so popular until now.

What can we see inside this castle? We can see main rooms including the grand bedroom, four great halls, hall and cave stores, three courtyards and also we can see a series of bedrooms open to the public.
There are various options to go to this castle, from Geneva International Airport we can ride boats dock at the CGN jetty next to the castle or if we go by train from Veytaux-Chillon Station. Other alternative is by bus. There’s daily trolley bus service to the castle. The castle is located 3 km or 2 miles from Montreux, so we can still go there by car, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot.
